Sandra and Sebastian Workshop

by Ming Pang (1 Mar 2011)

The amazing Sebastian and Sandra were here to conduct a workshop and many lucky dancers had the opportunity to swing with them!

WHO: Sandra Klack and Sebastian Svensson of Stockholm, Sweden.

Sandra and Sebastian are teachers, performers and also co-founders of the dance group The Midnight Rounders, which is sprung from love and affection for the vintage era.

The dance group's focus is authentic styled Lindy Hop, Charleston, Collegiate Shag, Cakewalk, Vaudeville and Burlesque. In their work, they aim to keep and hone the style, craziness, energy and feeling of the golden age.

Sandra and Sebastian have won Stockholm Open Swing dance contest 2008 and 2009 in the Lindy hop division.

WHAT: Intermediate workshop & social night, organised by KL Swing!
WHEN: Sunday, Jan 16, 3-6pm
WHERE: Talent Hub Studio, Sri Hartamas & Craft Brews, Mutiara Damansara
WHY: It is a quirky fact that one of the swing world's hottest locations is not in America, or England, but in fact in Stockholm, Sweden.

Sebastian and Sandra teach at Chicago Studio in Stockholm, which is one of the premier studios in the world for Lindy Hop and also organiser of the swing Mecca; Herräng Dance Camp.

Having Chicago teachers in KL is a big boost for the fledgling swing dance movement in Malaysia. It is extremely rare. Even in all of Asia, there might be a handful of opportunities each year when one could attend a workshop by a teacher from Chicago.

Sandra and Sebastian have only been swing dancing for 6 years, but under the tutelage of the world's best and with the ability to attend Herräng every year, their abilities far outstrip any chronological measure. Chicago (and Herräng) continuously strive for their dance to be most authentic to the original show reels from the 30s and 40s.

The nattily dressed couple represent this not only in their dance; in their walk, their talk, their outfits and their hair can be seen a great and enduring love for the swing era.
